Renovating our guest room has been on my list for years. It was one of the last untouched spaces in our home since we moved in eight years ago, and I knew I wanted to give it a whole new vibe. For this project, I fully embraced deep, rich, moody colors—something bold yet cozy.

The Struggle with Painting (and My Game-Changing Solution)
Honestly, I had been putting this project off because I hate painting. The thought of all that prep and rolling made me procrastinate for way too long. But after mentally preparing myself for a week, I finally went for it.
Then reality hit: painting the ceiling’s wood bead board by hand was going to be a nightmare. Every little groove needed attention, and after a few minutes, I knew I had to find a better way. That’s when I remembered Daniel had ordered a paint sprayer for an outdoor project, and it was still in the box. I figured it was worth a shot—and let me tell you, it was a total game-changer!
The Game-Changer: VEVOR Paint Sprayer Model RP8626
The VEVOR Airless Paint Sprayer (Model RP8626) made the job so much easier and faster. This thing gives a smooth and even coat without brush strokes or roller marks. It's perfect for both interior and exterior projects. If you’re tackling a big paint project, I highly recommend grabbing one of these sprayers. You can find it on Amazon, and trust me, it's worth every penny. Tap Here For Amazon Listing
Ceiling Elegance with ‘Raven’
Once I had my sprayer ready, I tackled the ceiling first. I love painting ceilings with color—it adds such a unique touch to a space. Sometimes I go light, but this time, I went bold with ‘Raven’ by STAINMASTER. It’s a deep brown-black shade that gives the ceiling a rich, moody feel.
I had it mixed into Sherwin-Williams’ Showcase Stain-Blocking Paint and Primer in an interior flat finish at Lowe's Home Improvement, which worked perfectly on our rough wood beadboard ceiling. The matte finish softens the look while still feeling dramatic.
Harmonious Walls and Trim in ‘English Green’
For the walls, I knew I wanted a moody green to complement the bold ceiling. I went with ‘English Green’ by STAINMASTER, an earthy, deep green that brings a natural, calming energy to the room.
Since the lower half of the walls are beadboard paneling, I painted all the beadboard, doors, and trim in ‘English Green’ using Sherwin-Williams’ Showcase One-Coat Paint in a satin finish for added durability. The upper walls (which are sheetrock) got the same color but in a flat finish to create contrast and minimize light reflection. This little trick makes a huge difference in giving the space a designer look.
Moody Dark Color Combos Are Taking Over in 2025
If you’ve been keeping an eye on interior trends, you’ll know that moody, dark colors are having a huge moment in 2025. Shades like deep greens, charcoal grays, and rich browns are replacing stark whites and neutrals, bringing more warmth and drama into spaces.
People are embracing these colors for their ability to create depth, coziness, and a more high-end, curated feel. Pairing dark walls with warm wood tones, soft textures, and layered lighting can completely transform a space. My guest room makeover is a perfect example of how deep hues can add character without feeling overwhelming.
If you're thinking about trying a moody color palette, start small—maybe a powder room or an accent wall—and see how you like it. Trust me, once you start, you’ll be hooked!
Final Thoughts
Phase 1 of painting is officially done (except for a few touch-ups). Next on the list: painting the cabinets and getting a new countertop. In the meantime, I’m going to start decorating—because let’s be real, that’s the fun part!
Make sure to follow along because this project is far from finished, and I can't wait to share the final result!
